Dosage Calculations Made Simple: mcg/kg/min IV Drips Explained

Many medications are dosed depending on the weight of a patient. Using dimensional analysis, I'll show you step-by-step how to find the rate in mL per hour that the pump should be set. The puzzle piece method compares dimensional analysis to solving a jigsaw puzzle. The goal (what the question is asking) is the the picture on the puzzle box and what the equation should look like once the equation is complete. The puzzle pieces are different values from the problem that are needed for the find the dose. The puzzle pieces in weight based problems are PPP: patient's weight, prescription (ordered amount), and product (the concentration of the medicine). Start all problems using the puzzle piece that contains the goal. Complete the equation by cancelling out the puzzle pieces until you are left with your goal, mL in the numerator and hour in the denominator.
