SharePoint Online Domain Name Change

A long-requested feature in SharePoint Online is the ability to change the URL of the top-level SharePoint site. This setting is determined by the tenant name you choose when your tenant was first created, this means that the URL will always be . However, poorly considered tenant name choices, along with company rebranding or renaming, are just a few reasons many organizations may find themselves planning a challenging and disruptive tenant to tenant migration which they could potentially avoid if they simply change this URL. It is now possible to change those URLs (including the ) if your organization has no more than 10’000 SharePoint sites and OneDrive accounts in total. There are certain observations that need to be noted prior to initiating this process. This includes. This change affects only SharePoint and OneDrive URLs. It doesn't impact email addresses. This change does not impact email addresses. This feature is not available for organizations that have set up multi-geo or is using special clouds or government clouds A redirect will be created which will expire one year after the rename. You can only rename your SharePoint domain once. If you need additional renames, submit a support request by selecting Rename a SharePoint Tenant more than once.
