This Infiniti VR30DDTT Engine is a FAILED attempt at modernizing the Reliable VQ Engine

In this video we teardown an Infiniti Q50 Red Sport engine. It is a twin turbocharged direct injected V6 engine, situated longitudinally for a RWD layout. This engine came out back in 2016 to replace the trusted and true VQ37 engine. It made more power but at the expense of complexity, especially with the turbocharged setup. This engine has additions like a variable oil pump, electronic coolant valve manifold, electric water pump, air to water intercoolers, electric waste gate amongst others. These are added to aid with performance but also with the overall goal of making it more efficient and less emitting than its predecessor. The engine in this video was from a 2017 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport with only 124,000km that developed rod knock. The teardown indicates the engine ran low on oil or it was contaminated at some point, as all of the crankshaft bearings were damaged. One connecting rod bearing was spun over. Unfortunately, this is a common issue with these engines, as its important to check your engine oil frequently.
