Wrestling Bios Presents - The Story of The First Ever WCW Nitro During the mid to late 90s, World Championship Wrestling was able to produce the biggest and most popular wrestling television show in the world. WCW Monday Nitro was the most watched wrestling programme on Monday nights, defeating their biggest rival, the WWF and their flagship Monday Night Raw show, for a consecutive run of 83 weeks. When fans wanted wrestling during this time period, they tuned into WCW. The very first episode of WCW Nitro happened on the 4th of September 1995. Eric Bischoff was attempting to set a new tone with this very show, doing everything he could to be different from the WWE. The debut episode of Nitro included superstars such as Hulk Hogan, Sting, Ric Flair, Jushin "Thunder" Liger and also included appearances from Macho Man Randy Savage and a returning Lex Luger. The show was seen as a success among those in Turner Broadcasting, and from here, WCW Nitro go on a meteroic rise as the most popular and exciting show on TV.
