Green Screen Edge Wrap SECRETS (and a LIE!) - Advanced DaVinci to Unreal Engine WORKFLOW

In this follow up video in my Green Screen to Unreal Engine SECRETS (and a LIE!) Series, I'll show you how to implement the traditional VFX compositing technique of edge wrap / light wrap, directly inside of Unreal Engine (UE / UE5) to bring more realism and seamless integration to your green screen and blue screen footage. This was something that was missing from my previous videos and has been on my compositing in Unreal Engine bucket list since I started this journey! Edge wrap is the advanced compositing trick of blurring the background and subtly blooming that light only over your subject, to help integrate the edges of your green screen into the environment. To recreate this effect live in engine for offline virtual production, there are a few steps to jump through but once you're set up it's relatively easy to apply this technique. You'll need to make an extraction and an edge wrap matte in your compositing software of choice, e.g., Adobe After Effects or Nuke, but in my case I'm using Davinci Resolve's Fusion. I'll show you my chroma key extraction workflow, and how to create the utility pass ready to bring into UE. Once we have the plate with the extraction and that edge wrap Utility pass, we'll bring those into Unreal Engine as Media Tracks and we'll set up the materials and textures needed to create edge wrap, live in engine. I'll show you the key technique using a Render Target to blur the background directly in Unreal! You'll also learn how to animate the brightness and levels inside of the sequencer. Then as a BONUS - Since this shot has a 3D camera move, the last 1/3rd of the video goes over my improved techniques for 3D camera tracking with DaVinci Resolve Studio, setting the world scale, and exporting reference geometry to Unreal Engine. Or alternatively you can render geometry directly inside of Fusion if you don't care about UE. Shout out to @prophetless who I learned the the point cloud to geom trick from and how to fix greyed out Render all Savers too! I've made timestamps for the video below and also along the top of the video I've made 'time-bars,' which show the percentage of each section you're on so you can skip around as needed. Thanks so much for watching and please subscribe so you won't miss the next update to this green screen to unreal engine workflow for your next virtual production movie!
