Videographers, what happens if a client hands you a bunch of footage and asks you to turn it into a video? How do you price a project that only needs video editing? First, CONSIDER THE AMOUNT OF FOOTAGE AND THE EXPECTED DELIVERABLES. For example, if the client hands you 30 minutes of raw footage and wants it edited into a 2-minute video, that's going to be more time-demanding than 2 minutes of raw footage that simply needs a few titles thrown in. Second, ASK TO SEE THE FOOTAGE BEFORE GIVING A QUOTE. You ALWAYS want to know what you are getting into before you commit. You don't want to give a quote, and then once you look at the footage, you realize it is going to take twice as long to clean it up and make it look good. Lastly, once you have all the details, QUOTE THE PROJECT ON A FULL DAY EDITING RATE. Be willing to charge a little more when editing someone else's footage, because it's always more difficult and time-consuming to edit footage you didn't shoot. I hope these tips help you out.
