DIY Motorized Window Blinds with ESP32 & Home Assistant: Battling Friction! (Part 2)

In the thrilling conclusion of my DIY motorized window blind control system, I bring you Part 2 of the journey! Powered by an ESP32 board flashed with ESPHome, this smart home project integrates seamlessly with Home Assistant and a rocker switch to control a stepper motor driving a window crank handle. I designed a custom circuit board to house the ESP32, power supply, and motor driver, plus 3D-printed an enclosure and a crank-to-motor adapter using my Creality CR-10S. Despite upgrading to a stepper motor with the torque, friction in the crank mechanism proved too strong. Join me as I share the build process, the lessons learned, and why you can’t win a battle with friction! Will I find a way to lubricate or clean the crank? Stay tuned for future updates!
