In this video, I preserved and rebuilt a very old traditional oak butter churn. About the process: This project was one of the most challenging I’ve ever worked on because of how badly decayed the oak butter churn was. I learned a lot about preserving rotten wood and rebuilding a new piece using both traditional and modern methods. It was my first time making a wooden barrel, and I think I succeeded, but it definitely wasn’t easy. After this, my respect for traditional coopers went through the roof. Those people made everything using only hand tools! I also hope you enjoyed my idea of preserving the original churn exactly as it was, and rebuilding a similar one from scratch, maybe a bit more tapered at the bottom, haha.
