The biggest restrictions I have seen in adults learning to handstand do not necessarily come from lack of physical attributes like strength or flexibility(though these are still very important). Instead, some of the more limiting restrictions are often psychological or technical. In this particular case of the handstand, it's about being afraid to fall or lacking the confidence or technique to do so safely. Once a practitioner knows how to safely fall, this unlocks a new realm of possibilities in freestanding handstands an helps to ensure safety throughout the practice. In this video, I discuss a few of my preferred drills to get people comfortable with bailing out of a handstand. I think this is a must before any kind of freestanding work, especially when working with adults who have no prior acrobatic experience. Interested in learning more?
