An experiment by a novice writer to write a movie in 21 days based on the book 'How to Write a Movie in 21 Days' by Viki King. Basic guidelines from the book... -What’s your story? -My viewpoint/Theme? -What are the issues being explored through the characters and story? -Keep asking ‘What if questions?’. -Use 3x5 cards with scene ideas. -Who is it about? Past present, future. -Show, don’t tell. -What’s your metaphor for the story? -I am the characters i’m writing, do they express my view points. -Character: Who is he, what do they want, questing after? -Why do i want to write this, why is it important? -Imagine your story in a trailer in the cinema. -Page 1: Show: Where, what, when, the rules, the pace, their PoV, a joke. -Page 3: A line of dialogue that introduces the central question/what’s being explored. Veery scene after builds on the question -Page 3-10: Engage audience in the needs, wants and conflicts/inciting incident. -Page 10: The wants and what stopping him from getting it. -Page 10-30: New information based on the challenge in page 10. The problems he faces in getting his goal(s). -Act 1/Page 30: Turning Point: A big event happens sending the hero on new pathway/goal into next act. -Act 2/Page 45: Metaphor: A small scene with symbolic overtones showing the past and potential future for the hero. Gives clue to the resolution. -Act 3/Page 60: Point of no Return: A small breather, quiet moment in the film for the hero to reflect and show how he is changing. Obstacles now escalate. -Act 4/Page 75-90: New Development: Looks like hero will not achieve his goal, about to give up. Hero is educated on page 90, getting something better or different to what he thought he was going to get from his original goal. He has changed again from all that he has gone through. -Act 5 Climax: Hero can see his goal but faced with a final obstacle and has to give up everything he has left behind to achieve his goal. All he has is in jeopardy of being lost/crisis point. All or nothing. He wins or loses and is changed. Surprise ending and change. -The End: How do you feel, did the movie answer the central question, does the audience feel satisfied? -Logline -Visual Aid: Something small that symbolizes what inspired you to write this. -Title: Twitter: HarrisVaughan1 Instagram: HarriskVaughan Spotlight:
