For my fourth #SepTandy 2021 video, it's finally time to dig into the disk drives for the Radio Shack TRS-80 model 1. I will also crack open (figuratively speaking!) the Expansion Interface to have a look inside. After seeing all the upgrades and mods that were inside the main computer, what might be lurking inside the Expansion Interface? 00:00 Intro 02:13 Brief discussion about the drives 04:52 Disassembling the first drive 05:40 Sidebar about the drive IDs 10:19 Disassembling the second drive 12:20 Disassembling the third drive 17:23 Trying the drives out! 23:46 Disassembling the "top" side of the Expansion Interface 27:25 Disassembling the "bottom" side of the Expansion Interface 29:20 Bodge-tacular! 32:42 RS-232 connector on the other Expansion Interface 33:19 Closing words Special thanks go out to Geek With Social Skills and Adrian's Digital Basement for the help and support that they have provided my fledgling channel over the last year. Hopefully I'll be able to pay the favor back in the coming years! Below are links to the manuals that I was able find for the Micro Peripherals Inc. (MPI) model 51 and model 52 drives. It was very frustrating that manuals talk a lot about the need for proper installation of termination resistors, but none of them explicitly say where those resistors need to be installed. The article that I found about the LN Doubler board by LNW Research Corp. is linked below. In December 1982, that board cost $220. That's $624 in 2021 money! #SepTandy2021 #trs80
