The Battle of Waterloo, fought on June 18, 1815, was the decisive conflict that ended Napoleon Bonaparte's rule over France and his imperial ambitions. Napoleon's army faced a coalition force made up of British, Dutch, Belgian, and Prussian troops, commanded by the Duke of Wellington and the Prussian General Blücher. The battle took place near the village of Waterloo in modern-day Belgium. Despite early success, Napoleon’s forces were overwhelmed by the timely arrival of Prussian reinforcements, which tipped the balance in favor of the coalition. After the defeat, Napoleon was exiled to the island of Saint Helena, marking the end of the Napoleonic Wars and a major shift in European politics.
