It blew up with 6 videos and I got 1000 subscribers with it. So what I did, I hand picked 6 videos from my main YouTube advice channel, which I thought were really valuable. Each of these videos that didn’t do as well as I expected, but I knew the audience retention was good. 2 of the 6 videos took off. The first one took 6 weeks, 8 weeks for the second video. A simple pattern for blowing up When you want to grow quick, you should always look for patterns in the videos that did well. The first thing to notice is how broad they are in terms of audience. Let me show this by looking at the viewer pyramid. [op bord tekenen] On the horizontal axes are the potential amount of viewers, on the vertical axes the expertise. There are more beginners than professional creators, because not everyone that starts will become and expert. My audience is YouTube creators, and the videos that blew up satisfy beginners, median and experts. So I have the full potential of this niche, because beginners won’t watch expert videos, and experts don’t watch beginner videos. But only targeting beginners for example is also a good strategy. Often the competition is also lower with the beginners topics, because most creators forget the beginners, that’s the curse of knowledge. But in my niche the competition is really tough in the bottom part. But I’ll talk in minute how you can beat the competition, which I did. Also, beginners have the potential to be with you on your channel the longest, because they have so much to learn. So investing in this group is really valuable How did I beat the competition? When I Look at the 2 videos that blew up: how badly do you want to watch these videos, purely based on what they are about, so the video idea? Look at the thumbnails: how badly do you want these videos based on the thumbnail and title? So if there is a big WANT to watch that video for viewers, it gets more views. When you think about it, it sounds logic right? But have you thought about this when you made your last video? Video idea So, for your next video how can you create this WANT for viewers to watch your video? That’s research: • You should know who your competition is, so you know who you are up against • You should know your value proposition, in other words: what makes you unique. Why should viewers click on your videos instead of the competition? • And most importantly, you should know avatar, your ideal viewer. What is their gender, age, family situation, financial situation. Because THEN you can investigate what are their fears, their motivators, what are their pain points. Because each of those are video ideas and triggers to click on a video. The number 1 thing that gets you views is your title and thumbnail. Because that’s what viewers click on, so that is what gets you the view in the first place. This is how you keep your competition at a distance. I picked videos for the new channel of which I knew the thumbnail was good. Because YouTube only promotes the videos that people click on. So it is really important to ask yourself: if I see my own thumbnail on YouTube Home, would I click on it myself. But what you have to know is that the big views come with YouTube Home and Suggested, 5M, 10M views, not from YouTube Search. These 2 traffic sources is what blows up YouTube channels. You trigger these with … you might have guessed it …. with good video ideas, titles and thumbnails. When we look at the traffic sources, we can see that I didn’t get traffic from YouTube Search, but from YouTube Home.
