After importing a SolidWorks model into Maya and V-ray, the normals in the model look good. However, after zooming in, you can see the problems with the normals. First, I’ll explain how to regenerate all the normals on the mesh, using the Mesh Display – Set to face tool. After, I’ll fix the rough edges in the model using the Mesh Display Soften/Harden Edges tool. Finally, I’ll explain how this regenerating normals makes your mesh harder to process for your CPU since they add more details and complexity to your file.
