Visualizing the renovation of an 18th-century half-timbered house

This 3D cutaway exposes the interior of the construction site. The house was damaged during a massive flood in 2021. The animation shows you the different floors and rooms, including the raw timber structure as well as the tools used during the renovation. This is more than the famous "Dollhouse View" – it actually makes you understand how the house is constructed and where the damage occurred. ✨ One of the many ways that 3DGS can help in education and cultural heritage preservation. 🏛️ We scanned the house with the XGRIDS Portal Cam in only 16 minutes from both the inside and outside, so you can better understand the building as a whole. I layered a colored slice on top of the animation in After Effects to better show the floor plan and cross-sections of the house and remove the typical blurry edges you usually get when cutting 3DGS models. This method results in wobbly edges but overall they look much cleaner. Let me know what you think about this technique in the comments! 💬
