Plot: Outside of . Headquarters, Tails warns Sonic that Gerald and Robotnik are nearly at the vault of . Headquarters, prompting Sonic to set off despite warnings. When Sonic arrives behind Gerald and Robotnik, they run for the key, only to be pinned to the floor by a gravity trap. Sonic attempts to grab the key himself, but is caught in a similar trap. Director Rockwell arrives and explains that the vault is armed with gravity. A group of . soldiers enters the vault, capturing Tom, Maddie, and Tails. Sonic calls in Knuckles, who breaks through the barrier using the Flames of Disaster to enter the vault. Knuckles breaks the gravity control device, causing the gravity to go haywire. Rockwell tries to reach the key while floating in the air, but the key falls to the ground. Sonic uses his chaos energy to launch a Spin Dash, saving Tom, Maddie, and Tails. The gravity returns to normal, causing everyone to fall back down. Rockwell grabs the key before Robotnik can, prompting Tom to follow her. As Rockwell retreats, she encounters Tom disguised as Commander Walters. She gives him the key and instructs her to organize reinforcements. Tom reverts to his normal self, but Shadow breaks through the roof and strikes him with a chaos energy-fueled punch, knocking him out. Shadow discovers that Walters is Tom in disguise. Sonic arrives to inform Tom that others have cleared the building but sees his unconscious body in front of him. Sonic pleads for Tom to wake up, reminding Shadow of his own reaction to Maria's death. Shadow responds with "What I had to," before teleporting away. Maddie, Tails, and Knuckles arrive, worried over Tom's body. Back in the vault, Gerald and Robotnik are surrounded by . soldiers while getting back up, only for Shadow to appear and defeat them all.
