FlyNano was one of the most unusual electric aircraft ever built. Weighing just around 70 kg, it was light enough for the pilot to outweigh the aircraft itself. In this video, we look at the engineering behind its compact box-wing design, carbon-fibre structure, ruthless weight reduction, 32 kW electric motor and tiny battery pack — and why the aircraft never became the personal electric flyer its creators imagined. We also explore a bigger question: with today’s batteries, lightweight avionics and electric propulsion systems, could a modern FlyNano finally make sense? Was FlyNano simply an aircraft that arrived too early?
