DDR4: DDR5: If youre looking to upgrade your pc’s ram or build a new one entirely ram or build a new one entirely, youre going to need RAM. You’ve likely noticed 2 different version advertised. DDR4 and DDR5,but whats the difference? That’s what were going to look at in this video. Please do subscribe you haven’t already, it really helps this small channel grow! The first DDR4 ram was released in 2014 while the first DDR5 came to market in 2020. The biggest difference is speed. This can be confusing as manufacturers have used MT/s and Mhz as the same thing for a while, but they are different measurements. It’s always best to refer to MT/s when buying RAM. This refers to how many millions of transfers are done per second by the RAM whereas Mhz is the clock speed, the manufacturers website should tell you the MT/s speed if you’re unsure. DDR4 Ram typically has a speed of 1600–3200 MT/s whereas DDR 5 has a speed of 4800–8400MT/s so is clearly faster than DDR4. These speeds can be improved further by overclocking but you can void your warranty by doing this. Moving on to power usage, DDR4 ram uses and DDR 5 has a lower voltage of . Another of the main differences is cost. DDR4 is significantly cheaper than DDR5 ram. While the price of both has dropped dramatically over the years, DDR5 tends to be about 50% more expensive than DDR4 so unless you’re on a strict budget, DDR5 is the way to go. I’ve left a link to some excellent DDR4 and DDR5 options in the description below if you’re in the market for them.
