The F & M Lines Swap Tunnels New Routing, New Stops, and Smoother Service Starting on 12/08/25 pt2

The MTA is making big changes on December 8, 2025, as the F and M subway lines officially swap their East River tunnels during weekday service. This update is designed to reduce delays, improve train flow, and give riders a more reliable commute on one of the busiest corridors in New York City. Under the new plan, the F line will move to the 53rd Street tunnel, serving Queens Plaza, Court Sq–23 St, Lexington Av/53 St, and 5 Av/53 St. Meanwhile, the M line will take over the 63rd Street tunnel, serving 21 St–Queensbridge, Roosevelt Island, Lexington Av/63 St, and 57 St. This change applies weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., with evenings and weekends returning to the previous routing. The goal is to reduce congestion at the Queens Boulevard choke point and create a smoother, faster, and more dependable ride for more than a million daily riders. In this video, we break down the full details, rider impacts, station-by-station changes, and what commuters should expect once the swap goes into effect.
