Founded in 1898, the Villiers Engineering Company began by making bicycle parts before launching its first motorcycle engine in 1912. Initially, the company focused on four-stroke engines but found more success with its simpler two-stroke designs, which became widely used in motorcycles, agricultural equipment, and other applications for decades. After facing financial difficulties and a takeover in the 1960s, the original company ultimately went into liquidation in 1978; however, its legacy endures in vintage engines and its lasting influence on modern engineering.
