The Aeneid, an epic by Virgil, narrates the escape of Aeneas from Troy after its destruction. Warned by the ghost of Hector, Aeneas saves his father Anchises and his son Ascanius, but loses his wife Creusa. Guided by prophecies, he leads the surviving Trojans in search of a new land where he will found the future Rome.
