It's no secret that as comic book artists we love our tools. It's one of the reasons I myself have way too many inks, pencils, brushes, paint tubes, etc. We just love our tools. One tool that is indispensable as a comic book artist (especially if you are drawing on paper) is your drawing support. Specifically, what do you use to set your paper on to draw your comics? I've used a few drawing boards myself over the years. But one that I've had in my possession for probably about 30 years and failed to fully grasp its potential until only recently, is the hollow drawing board. Like I said, I've had mine for over 30 years now. I don't recall the specific brand at this point, but it's essentially a wooden sketch board. It's very lightweight and probably made from poplar wood. Because it weighs next to nothing, it's extremely versatile for use when drawing comic book art. Check out the video to see how I use it. I am seriously kicking myself for not even realizing I can use it like this. Despite having seen how the drawing board can be used like this in the past, I never thought it would be something I would do myself. I was always in search of the perfect, adjustable drafting table, or similar drawing table. It's just funny that the simpler the approach, the more I've come to realize how much craft can rely on but a few simple tools. Happy drawing!
